It is my astute honor to have lived and interacted both professionally and personally in this amazing culture of Beijing, China. After fourteen years of software engineering, it was a precipitous decision to change careers and embark on my new direction in China.
I would like to give heartwarming and well-deserved appreciation to all of those whom have assisted in taking care of and nurturing me throughout the last nine years, most importantly our CEO my wife of the last seven years. I would also like to thank all of the teachers, agencies, schools*, and academic officials, their guidance is and will be everlasting.
Next, and most endearing to my heart, I must thank my students; you know who you are, for you are the reason why I have chosen my current career path as a scholar and a professor. – Once I am your teacher, I will always be your teacher.
It is important to outline the entire discourse of events that lead up to the formation of S.I. As many of you know I originally came to China for the first time in 1998 for travel. I wished to experience China first hand, through my own eyes not the way it was perceived through the movies and media. During this time I traveled to the cities of Wuhan, Chengdu and Lhasa. After returning home I long for more experiences and extended knowledge of the Chinese culture.
Each summer through 2002 I visited the cities of Shanghai, Xian, Guilin, Guangzhou and of course returning to Chengdu many times. It is upon the return in 1999 that I discovered that my interest in China was not just a passing fancy it was more than that it somehow feed my soul.
